Our Story

Salt & Light Church

“It is exciting to think that we only moved here in 2022 - God has done so much! We absolutely Love God and count it a blessing to lay our lives down for Him and His people. This has been one of the most fulfilling things for us; to see lives changed by the Power of The Gospel and The Love of Jesus is in itself life changing. May Jesus continue to build His church and may He keep Salt & Light healthy and holy”

- Daniel & Taryn

28 Oct 2021 | “Anytime - Anywhere Lord” a simple prayer - but in the hands of a loving God who loves to plant churches and show His wisdom and power through His people - this was the beginning of something special.

Daniel and Taryn (Lead Couple) of Salt & Light Church were working faithfully on Eldership at Crossways Church in East London for many years when at the right moment; through faith, apostolic leadership and The Will of God would find themselves packing to leave in less than 3 months time to move towns to plant a church.

At that time, Oxygen Life Church in Gqeberha were sending leaders weekly to an Outreach Community Group meeting weekly in Port Alfred. This was the base on which others would come; families, friends, locals began to catch wind of a new church plant. The field was and is ripe for harvest.

13 Feb 2022 | The first meeting of Salt & Light Church in the bottom of the Hobbs’s Home.

Over 60 people gathered together in a room big enough for two vehicles. Four12 family and many from Port Alfred. It was such an exciting time of meeting new people and from there we began to live out our faith in community and love for one another. Meeting weekly in our homes, praying and worshipping together knit our hearts like family. The house (and church venue) was sold, so we prayed together and God supplied. We moved into the Bowls Club for a year and then to our current venue.

9 July 2023 | Moved to the Port Alfred Country Club.

We have seen and trust God for more salvations, baptisms, new people experiencing God’s love and His family - the church. He has added new people & new gifts by which He will continue to build this part of His church up in love.

“And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,'“ Ephesians 4:11-12

The Church

Jesus is the head, the leader and authority over the church.

“And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.”

Ephesians 1:22-23

The church is loved by and loves Jesus.

Jesus gave His life for His church to be holy and pure. He has given all the opportunity to be washed clean and presented holy to God.

“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendour, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.”

Ephesians 5:25-27

The church upholds and practices the teachings of Jesus.

The words and works, the faith and hope we find in Jesus should never regress or shrink back in the face of trouble or world-views. God has called His church the support and pillar - upholding all God’s truth in all we say and do.

“If I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth.”

1 Timothy 3:15

Through the church, God will reveal His wisdom to all.

The power of The Gospel working into and through the church of Jesus Christ is God’s plan ‘A’.

He has chosen the church.

“To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things, so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.”

Ephesians 3:8-10

The church has a great commission

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18-20

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 5:13-16
